Member of the Men's Keep-Fit Group. Members of this group often develop powerful bodies and sometimes, after a great deal of training become symetrical in all aspects. The member shown in here has reached this advanced state of existance but, as can be seen, has become a bit stiff. |
Old Time Technology Group. The Old Time Technology Group have allways been a bit of a mystery. This pair, it seems, have just used the portable devices they are carrying [Wicker Basket and 'Typewriter', perhaps] to cause the explosion behind them. |
Pet Resque Group in Action This group commonly resques pets and other animals from the sea. They often carry the animals ashore on their sholders, as seen here, especially if the pet is wearing expensive headgear. |
Public Speaking Group. Members of the Public Speaking Group are out most weekends and often during the week too, since they are all retired (some look as if they retired a very long time ago ). A group of three is quite common as this attracts more interest from the public. |
Lion Taming Group - on Holiday. The Lion Taming Group is small and not very well known. Most U3As do not have a Lion Taming Group as the necessary lions are rather hard to come by. Here we see one of its members on safari in Ulster, where the native lions are known to be particularly ferocious. |
Ladies Artistic Posing Group. Many ladies like to pose in an artistic manner and this group provides an opportunity for them to do so. The posing is usually done in the open air as this shows the group members off at their best. It is well known that older people, such as U3A members, tend to lose height and, as can be seen, this lady has already lost a foot. |
Iron Horse Riding Group. Riding on the 'Iron Horse' was very popular in early Victorian times and this group is reviving this activity. Riding iron horses can be very stressful and the riders have to be 'iron men' themselves. Nevertheless, one can see in the picture that both horse and rider are 'well cast' for this sport. |
Gents Artistic Posing Group. It is not only the ladies that like to pose artistically, gentlemen also are quite keen. As seen here, they are usually not so shy as the ladies but do often have silly expressions on their faces. While the ladies sometimes appear a bit 'stoney', this gentleman - perhaps due to excessive exposure to the sun - has a somewhat 'metalic' appearance. |
Emigration Group. Actually, members of the Emigration Group do not emigrate themselvs but help others to get away from Weston-Super-mare (or other places). Here we see one of the group's members helping two young lads to emigrate. One of them seems to be pointing towards Clevedon (or, perhaps, America). |
Animal Rights Group Members of this group often dress up as animals in order to get publicity for their cause. There is nothing better than a good old ritule down in the woods to get you noticed by the press etc. - although some say that this is a 'load of bull'. The group is open to ladies, gentlemen and animals (as long as they are retired). |
