Country and Western The Country and Western Group usually meet on the beach but sometimes, as here, hold their events in Bristol. There are some people who are inclined to say that their performances are a bit 'Wooden'. |
Gentleman Bird Watcher. The Gentleman Bird Watchers are a diverse group who are very keen but do not always notice exactly where the bird is. Sometimes the bird they are watching is able to decieve them and remain unobserved, as here. Owing to the fact that some birds are a bit agressive some members feel the necessity to wear some form of body protection. |
Lady Bird Watcher. Lady Bird Watchers are not so plentiful as the Gentlemen, but just as keen. Some are a bit naughty and leave their cloths at home, beleiving that this attracts thr birds better. [Rumour has it that it only attracts the Gentlemen Bird watchers.] The Ladies prefer to do their bird watching in open spaces. Like the Gentlemen, they often are unable to locate the bird exactly. |
Member of the Philosophy Group. Members of this group come in all shapes and sizes. Some members seem to have lost their legs and to have acquires a somewhat 'wooden' look. As will be seen later, not all members of this group look like this and some are quite athletic in appearance, although many have this rather grey complection. These things are caused by sitting and thinking for very long periods. |
Member of the Martial Arts Group. Members of this group are usually among the younger U3A people, eg. those that retire a bit early. They are, however, very keen and keep up their training. They are, of course, very tough, hard as stone, as some might say, but are usually softies at heart and are often seen escourting Lady Bird Watchers. |
Movement to Music Lady Many U3A members belong to this group. They are all very keen and are even known (as here) to do their excersise movements on top of tall columns. |
Lady Member of the Old Time Bathing Group. This group particularly appeals to people from Weston-Super-Mare as this place may be concidered as old time and bathing is part of the life style here. Note the protective helmet; this is to conform with the Health and Safety Act. |

Member of Travel Group (Mars). The Travel Group regularly go to such intersting places as Mars, which can be easily be accessed by bus (See 'Bus Stop at Mars'). Sometimes they invite a native of the places they have visited to stay for a while in Weston, who then becomes an honoray member of the group, as here. |
Member of the Wine Appriciation Group. Many people on WSM U3A appriciate wine but only the most devoted belong to this group. Some group members, however, become a bit 'showey' and like to 'dress' for the part. It is said that the sea air in Weston produces grapes that not only give excellant wines but also give rise to the effects shown here. |
Member of the Bell Ringing Group. Owing to the fact that they get a lot of excercise, members of this group often appear to be a bit younger than they really are. Many of their performances are held in woodlands or the gardens of 'stately homes', as here. |
